DOMINO'S COACHING STAFF

Philip Cavell is entering his third season as a coach for the Domino's program coaching the 13's every year including last year's team that captured the 2006 state championship. Coach Cavell coached high school basketball on the varsity level for 20 years; 16 years coaching boys and the last four with girls. He has had coaching stints at Grand Isle, Hanson Memorial, St. Charles Catholic, and Vandebilt Catholic. He was named district coach of the year three times. In 1996, was named the Times Picayune New Orleans Metro Coach of the Year. A native of Lafayette, Coach Cavell's family includes his wife, Caroline, and their three daughters.

Monica Mire

Monica Mire is one of several Domino alums on the coaching staff this year. Monica joined the coaching staff in 2004 as the head coach of the 11 year old team. The team captured the State Championship and finished in the Sweet 16 at the AAU National Tournament.

Prior to rejoining the Domino's staff, Monica coached AAU teams to 4 consecutive State Championships (2000-2003). In 2000, her 11 year old team captured the AAU National Championship. She also led teams to a 9th place finish at Nationals in 2001, and a 5th place finish in 2003. Monica is also a member of the coaching staff for JPRD Westbank Biddy Basketball.

Monica played her college basketball at Nicholls State University in Thibodaux (1984 – 1988). Monica was also a 4 year starter on the softball team at Nicholls (1985-1989), where she was named All-State, All-Conference, and Gulf Star Conference Scholar Athlete of the Year. She was named to the Nicholls State Softball Team of the Decade. She graduated cum laude from NSU in 1988 with a B.S. degree in Computer Science.

Monica attended John Ehret H.S. in Marrero, La. She was a 1st team All-District performer in 3 sports. In basketball, she earned All-State, All-Metro and Westbank Athlete of the Year honors as a senior. Monica was also the Valedictorian of her senior class.

Monica better known as “Wiz” (a nickname she acquired from Coach Domino) played in the Domino's organization from 1979 – 1983. She was a member of the 1981 AAU National Champion 15 year old team. In 1982, her team placed 5 th at AAU Nationals and captured the BCI National Championship. In 1983, she helped lead her 16 year old team to the AAU National Championship and was named to the All-American team.

Stephanie Williams

Stephanie is another Alum of the Dominos AAU program on the coaching staff this year. Stephanie started as an assistant with the 11 yr old team in 2001 and stayed with that team in 2002. This year Stephanie will be coaching the 16 year old Domino's elite team with Ferris Peters.

Stephanie is from Metarie, La. She received a 4 year basketball scholarship to attend the University of Louisiana - Monroe after an outstanding high school career at Ridgewood Prep. At ULM, Stephanie was a 4 year letterman. She started as a freshman and averaged 7pts and 2 assists per game.  She led the Southland Conference in Freethrow Percentage (83.5%), and finished #35 in nation in freethrow percentage. Her sophomore year she averaged 3pts 2assists per game and the team made it to the semi-finals of the conference tournament. She had knee surgery prior to her junior year, but still helped lead ULM to a second place finish in the Conference before tearing her left ACL late in the year. Stephanie was no stranger to fighting through knee inhuries, missed 13 games in her Senior year but returned to help lead the ULM lady Indians to their 1st Southland Conference Championship since 1987. Team made it to the conference tournament championship game.

Stephanie graduated from Ridegewod Prep High School. She completed and outstanding high school career by being named All-District, All- East Jefferson, All-Metro 1st Team, All-State 2A 1st Team, East Jefferson MVP, District MVP, on a team that won their second shake n bake title....and received the NCAA Student Athlete Day Award. She was named Ridgewood Female Athlete of the Year and received a full scholarship to play bball at University of Louisiana at Monroe (ULM). Unfortunately, her senior season was cut short due to a torn right ACL just before the state playoffs. Stephanie lettered in basketball for 2 years at Dominican High School where she helped lead them to 2 staright District Titles and was named as a CYO all-american before transferring to Ridgewood. At Ridgewood Prep as a junior she was named All-District, All-East Jefferson, Sweet 16 All Tournament, All Metro 1st team....and was part of a state championship team.  Also lettered in Track and Volleyball.                               

Stephanie played in the Domino program as a 14, 15 and 16 year old. Her 14 year old team placed 13th in nation and won state. Her 15 year old team won the state championship and as 16s they finished State Runner-Up.

Jessica Barber

Jessica is from Franklinton , LA. She received a 5 year full-paid scholarship to the University of Mobile after an outstanding high school career at Franklinton High School . At the University of Mobile , Jessica was a four year starting letterman where she played point guard for Martha Gore-Algernon, a Dominos Alum. Jessica started as the only freshman on the team, averaged 6 points and 5 assists per game and helped her team to a conference championship. The Rams went on to the national tournament where they finished in the Top 8. Jessica's sophomore year she averaged 6 points and 5 assists, and her team was second in conference and was eliminated after the first round of the national tournament. Her junior year at Mobile , she averaged 8 points and 6 assists. Her team finished third in the conference. Jessica's career as a Ram ended a little sooner than expected her senior year. In the second round of conference play, she went down with a torn ACL. Before the injury, she was averaging 12 points, 8 assists, and 3 steals. The Rams finished the season without Jessica, where they were second in conference and were eliminated after the first round in the National Tournament. Jessica had a successful career at the University of Mobile , and now holds the All-Time record for the most career assist.

Jessica graduated from Franklinton High School in 2001. She concluded her high school career by being named the Most Valuable Player of the Louisiana All-Star Game, where she was chosen to represent the East squad. Apart from being chosen for the all star team, Jessica's senior year was one of her most successful. She was also named as one of the Wendy's High Heisman nominees. Jessica started all four years as a Lady Demon. She was named to the All-District team four years and received 16 all tournament awards for tournaments throughout her four years. Jessica also lettered in softball and was her high school's Homecoming Queen!

 

Jessica started her AAU career as a Kenner Angel when she was 10 but switched over to the Domino's program when she was 14. She played in the program for three years, as a 14, 15 and 16 year old. Her 14 year old team placed 13th in nation and were state champions. Her 15 year old team won the state championship and as 16s they finished State Runner-Up.

Mitch Mire joined the Domino's coaching staff in 2004. He helped lead the 11 year old team to a State Title and a Sweet 16 finish at Nationals. He brings a wealth of basketball knowledge to the program. Mitch has been coaching & officiating basketball since he was 16 years old.

Prior to joining the Domino's staff, Mitch coached AAU teams to 4 consecutive State Championships (2000-2003). In 2000, his 11 year old team captured the AAU National Championship. Coach Lauren Mioton

Lauren Mioton joins the coaching staff this year as to assist the 13 year old team. She played for five years in the Domino program capturing 4 straight State AAU Titles and Sweet 16 finishes at Nationals. In 2004, the team played an elite tournament schedule highlighted by trips to Virginia, North Carolina, Atlanta, and Oregon.

Lauren was a 6 year starter at Newman High School. She is the all-time leading scorer with 3572 points. She was named to the all-district team all 6 years twice earning all-district MVP honors. She was four times named all Orleans, three times all metro, honorable mention 2-A all state as soph, honorable mention 3-A all state as a junior and second team 3-A all state as senior. Lauren has a 4.0 GPA/Cum Laude society/AP commended scholar/National Merit Commended Scholar. She will graduate in May from Isadore Newman High School and will attend Purdue next year to play for Kristy Curry and major in Biology/premed
